Béla Bartók’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion provides the driving force for Béla, a co-creation by Etienne Guilloteau & Claire Croizé together with music ensemble Ictus
Together with the renowned music ensemble Ictus, choreographers Claire Croizé and Etienne Guilloteau (ECCE) embark on a striking new creation for four female dancers and four musicians. Béla Bartók’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion — an explosive work full of complex accents and rhythms — serves as the driving force behind a vibrant, virtuosic choreography. It is music brimming with life, irresistibly calling the body to move. The performance explores the profound physical and emotional impact of music on the body and immerses us in polyrythm to reveal an extraordinary intensity in the dance gestures.
The performance brings together dance, classical music, and bold electronic music that pushes the boundaries of sound art. By exploring Bartók’s unique approach to the form of the “Nocturne,” dancers and musicians engage in a redefinition of the concept of “Nature”: no longer an idealized Other, a source of contemplation — and exploitation — but a vast field of negotiation among all inhabitants of the Earth, teeming with gestures, sounds, and complex interactions.
The world premiere is scheduled for 6 February 2026 at Concertgebouw Brugge. Afterwards, the performance will be presented in Brussels by Bozar and in Leuven at the Stadsschouwburg by Stuk in collaboration with 30CC.
There are two work-in-progress showings planned at the end of residency periods: on 9 October 2026 at Studio de la Velette, CCN Rillieux-la-Pape, and on 18 December at CCN Caen in France.
